FG seeks to create 20 million jobs in the next four years

In a bid to curb unemployment in the country, the Federal government is seeking more broader ways of providing opportunities to Nigerians, targeting 20 million jobs in the next four years.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja at a meeting organised by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) on job creation, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah said that re-election of the current government “has strengthened our resolve to stem rising unemployment by creating jobs through the provision of employable skills for our teeming youths.

“In order to sustain and build on the successes recorded in this regard in the first tenure of Mr. President, we are articulating and strategizing with a renewed impetus towards combatting the twin evils of unemployment and insecurity.”

He noted that “it is on this basis that the Ministry charged the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to come up with revolutionary multi-faceted job wealth creation strategies that would lead to a lasting solution to this hydra-headed problem.”

“I am glad to inform this distinguished audience that the ITF has done justice to the task assigned to them. From the report I have received, the ITF has been able to propose pragmatic strategies that within the tenure of the next level, will generate about 20 million jobs from four key sectors of the Nigerian economy.

“These key sectors are Agriculture, Construction, Transport and the Services sectors. The report, which is to be presented to us shortly by the ITF Director-General, forms the crux of this meeting. The meeting will be expected to examine all the aspects of the report with a view to dissecting all the recommendations therein and proffering additional strategies and action plan that will lead to jobs for all Nigerians,” he stated.

In his address, the Director-General of Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Sir Joseph Ari lamented that “today, all across the country are needless incidences of violence, criminality and social vices perpetrated by persons that ordinarily should be contributing significantly to the development of our dear Nation.

“This is even as others that should be earning sustainable livelihoods today are barely able to eke out a living. The number that is without jobs in our country is at once scary and staggering and should be a source of worry to an administration that is as committed to the welfare of Nigerians as the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR).

“According to the National Bureau for Statistics (NBS) report of the 4th Quarter of 2017 to the 3rd Quarter of 2018, the total number of Nigerians that were unemployed increased from 17.6 million in 4th Quarter of 2017 to 20.9 in 3rd Quarter of 2018”.
Ari explained that “this is despite the fact that the number of people in employment increased from 68.4 million in the 3rd Quarter of 2015 to 68.72 million in the 3rd Quarter of 2016 to 69.09 million in the 3rd Quarter of and 69.53 million in the 3rd Quarter of 2018.

“What the report indicated is that, although government efforts to create jobs may be having an impact, the number of unemployed is still rising,” he noted.

He stated further that “other authorities estimate that Nigerian tertiary institutions produce up to 500,000 graduates every year with only a fraction able to secure employment.”

“These are statistics that should bother any Nigerian noting that “from our experience, Government initiatives are only successful where the buy-in of the relevant stakeholders is secured.

“It is more so for these initiatives that we are recommending, as they will rely on multi-agency and cross-sectoral collaboration for their success,” he added.

STUDENT LEADER EXTOLS THE FEAT OF 17 YEAR OLD OLUWA ISAAC OLAMILEKAN.

The Osun State Coordinator of the Buhari National Students Support Group Comrade Kunle Oyediran, has extolled the brilliance and intellect of Master Oluwa Isaac Olamilekan who had the third highest score in the recently released Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board exams results.
In a statement Comrade Oyediran stated that “the revelation of young Isaac Olamilekan’s feat at the just concluded JAMB exercise is one that fills every Osun indigene with pride and reposes a high level of confidence. From the over 1 million participants, it is nothing short of amazing that a 17 year old boy would do so well as to score 345. This is beyond laudable and would serve as an inspiration for prospective JAMB students and entrants into tertiary institutions in the coming years.”
He further emphasized the positive appendage that has come to the state from the prowess of Master Isaac, pointing out that it was an instance of the abundance of high intelligent youngsters in the state of Osun. “What this proves is that all over the country and beyond, Osun State stands out as a hotbed for intelligentsias and academically sound young people. Education is an important aspect of developing the younger generation and this remarkable reality shows that Osun has keyed into the drive to improve educational standards in society. The flag of Osun State has once again been hoisted on high, and by this feat she has become an envy of other states.”
He further asserted that the exploit of Isaac was a shadow of great things which the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has in store for the educational sector of the state. “We are further inspired in hope as we remember the plans that His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Osun State had made known to the people during the course of his campaign. From that and the knowledge of Alhaji Oyetola as an intelligentsia himself, we can only expect tremendous feats by Osun students at all levels.”
Comrade Kunle Oyediran ended his statement by urging the Governor to reward the studiousness of Master Oluwa Isaac Olamilekan via scholarship awards, in order to further inspire him to excel more and also serve as a means of motivation for others.

Whether Africa’s youth bulge will be a boon or a ticking demographic time bomb will depend on the extent to which African Governments implement sound policies and invest in human capital sectors such as tertiary education, vocational training, skills development, agriculture and food security, health, labour intensive job creation and encouraging entrepreneurship, as well as peace and security. Effective policies and measures are critical to harness the benefits of the potential demographic dividend. In addition, African Governments need support from a wide range of international partners and stakeholders as the Sustainable Development Goals will not be achieved without the active engagement and contribution of Africa’s youth to identify their priorities, partner with development actors to foster robust implementation of the various development priorities.

Bad leadership they say is our problem and I totally agree. Is obvious that Africa’s current crop of leaders lack the political will, are out of touch and unwilling to change the status quo on the continent. With such a gaping age difference between the majority of people in Africa (the youth) and those who rule them, it’s no surprise the continent’s current leaders have no clue how the world is changing, and how it affects young people.

However, I’ve observed some interesting and powerful trends that indicates we’ve all been making a huge mistake: For decades, Africans have been looking up to its political leaders and the outside world to solve the continent’s problems but the truth is, leadership is not exclusive to the political class. And African youths need to understand this point very well. Young people in Africa have an untapped revolutionary leverage. Right now, they number over 700 million. By 2050, their number is expected to reach over 1.2 billion, the largest population of young people in world.

With 70% of Africa’s population under the age of 30, we as a continent are presented with a great opportunity and, possibly, a great challenge. Young Africans today are taking actions that not only have an immediate impact, but will also determine the future of the continent for decades to come. More need to be done and no better time to step up this effort than now.

Never has there been such weighty responsibility on the shoulders of young people. Never has there been the influence in the hands of young people like the influence they carry now. But for Africa to reap the dividends she has longed for, it is up to our generation to make sure that influence is channelled correctly and directed towards relevant issues that affect not only ourselves, but generations after us. This can only be achieved if we come together as young people and begin to address the challenges before us as a continent.

Together as Youth, we can build a new world in Africa soil.

Every 13th of April has always been remarkable, and notable for maximum celebration, and jamborees of revolutionary dimension.

On this day, a leader par excellence - epitome of good conscience was given birth to.

April 13 of this year has not been an exception, as comrades, freedom writers and senior activists subscribed once again to the annual tradition of celebrating this man of noble pedigree, intelligence and charisma in grand style.

The cyber space was filled with numerous best wishes, and we wonder if Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook would not be this astonish as well.

Comrade Adekitan Lukman Adebisi (TUNICE) has once been the Welfare Director of National Association of Polytechnic Accountancy Students, Federal Polytechnic Ede Chapter.

His contributions to improve students welfare at the departmental level made him sat with men of high repute, rise to stardom, as far as students movement is concerned.

He was eventually elected to serve as the Public Relations Officer of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), State of Osun axis.

From there, he became the Chairman of the state axis of the same association and that earned him the sacred opportunity to liberate many students and students leaders from the shackles of oppression and intimidation.

Whoever does it well will be stood with during hard times, queued behind and recommended for greater responsibility was what actually brought him where he is today, serving the interest of all of us as the Coordinator of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South West, making him the number student in this geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

On the 14th of April, the second day of the birthday, he was declared the Senior Advocate of Nigerian Students (SANS).

This declaration was made by the incumbent Chairman of NANS JCC Osun State axis, Comrade Omololu Victor aka Castro at the occasion of the birthday celebration that witnessed the presence eminent dignitaries and revolutionaries at the Federal Polytechnic Ede Staff Club.

Comrade Omololu Victor aka Castro described his zonal counterpart as a man who has truly got the love of humanity in minds, and would always find it difficult to abandon or trade the revolutionary cause. 

He however urged the Coordinator NANS ZONE D (SOUTH WEST) to remain committed, focused and pragmatic, as sincerely the revolutionary world can earn more through his solemn sacrifices and sacred services.

Early in 1994, I had gone to visit the poet Gabriel Okara in Port Harcourt. He lived then in the Rumuibekwe Estate, and was under the loving care of his daughter. I spent a long day chatting and drinking tea. What struck me was the poet’s mental acuity. His memory was sharp as razor. His surroundings were Spartan, almost depressingly so, but it had one, very well preserved Piano, and Okara did tell me quite a bit about his love of the Piano as a musical instrument which he played when he was much younger. I regret that I did not get him to play a snatch for me. But the utter simplicity of the man was charming. He was an elegant bohemian, and this was one aspect that was always missing in the descriptions of him in writings about him. Nonetheless, that rude angle of his famous “newsboy’s cap” which he’d made famous wearing over a great tuft of white hair, did speak in a fashion about his predilection.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Niger on Wednesday commended eligible voters in the state for their peaceful conduct during the 2019 general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Samuel Egwu, made the commendation after presenting Certificates of Return to Gov. Abubakar Bello and his deputy, Ahmed Ketsu, in Minna.

The REC also presented certificates of return to the 27 winners of the state assembly election of which APC won in 26 constituencies and PDP in one.
Egwu said that the political maturity demonstrated by the voters paved way for the peaceful electoral process in the state.

He also lauded the efforts of INEC officials for ensuring smooth implementation of the electoral process during and after the elections.

Speaking after receiving his Certificate of Return, Bello commended INEC for providing a level playing ground for all the political parties during and after the elections

He said that the commission provided a great opportunity for eligible voters to elect leaders of their choice.
The governor also commended the security agencies for ensuring peaceful atmosphere during and after the elections in the state.

He promised to initiate policies and programmes that would enhance the wellbeing of residents.

“We will initiate and implement people oriented programmes in the areas of water supply, education, healthcare delivery and provision of modern farming implement affordable to farmers,” Bello said.

Following the collation of results of the 23 February election the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate and incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the 2019 Presidential election on Wednesday.
